The round pigtoe is a medium-sized freshwater mussel with a warm reddishbrown shell. It was once abundant in many large rivers and lakes in southwestern Ontario but it has been lost from many areas due to zebra mussels, pollution and agricultural impacts. The only locations where the round pigtoe is still reproducing are the Sydenham River and the delta of Lake St. Clair.
